Comment and Policy

Using the comment system

Thank you for your interest in commenting on our book! We are excited to listen to you, technology has made it possible for you, our readers, to submit comments at the level of detail of every single page. Every page ends with an unobtrusive anchor. When you click on it, it reveals the comments submitted by other readers.

Our policy

We never censor comments based on any point of view. We only delete those comments that are abusive, off-topic, use excessive foul language, or include ad hominem attacks. We do pre-moderate and post-moderate comments on our pages.
Our goals with each comments are to:

  • Promote quality, discourage crap.
  • Make "What Makes Us Indians" as readable as possible for as many people as possible.
  • Do not require a huge amount of time from any single moderator.
  • Do not allow a single moderator a "reign of terror."

On the whole, we think the moderation system works really well, but often people disagree. Their disagreement usually stems from different expectations. They see a bunch of moderations countering each other. They see a comment moderated blatantly wrong. A 'Troll' flagged 'Off topic' (or vice versa) and feel that the system is flawed.

We can't spam you, nor can anyone else

Notice that we don't ask for your email address? Nobody's going to spam you as a result of commenting on the book (unless for some reason you explicitly enter your email address somewhere).

Response, deletion, and editing

We reserve the right, but undertake no duty, to review, respond to, edit, move or delete any material provided for display or placed on the Site or its comment systems, in our sole discretion, without notice.
